As one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America, we recognize the world's energy needs are evolving and expanding. Our mission is to provide energy transportation and storage services in a safe, efficient and environmentally responsible manner for the benefit of people, communities and businesses. We are committed to fostering a culture of compliance within our company, as well as with our contractors and vendors. We also invest heavily in integrity management, maintenance and environmental programs to protect our assets, our employees, the public and the environment.

Environmental
At Kinder Morgan, we are committed to public safety, protection of the environment and operation of our facilities in compliance with applicable rules and regulations. It is our goal to work openly and cooperatively with all stakeholders regarding environmental, health and safety (EHS) issues.

We are proud of our safety record and publish our EHS performance on our website.

Social
Our neighbors, governments and communities play an important role in how we conduct our business. We live, work and play in the communities where we operate, and we are dedicated to building trust and fostering collaboration.

One of the ways we do this is through our Public Awareness Program. The program is designed to inform the public, emergency officials, public officials and excavators about pipeline safety and to increase awareness about pipelines in your community.

We also work to build relationships and serve the communities where we operate through the Kinder Morgan Foundation and our Connect.Inspire.Give volunteer program. The Kinder Morgan Foundation donates to academic and arts programs to benefit youth in grades K-12, and our volunteer program connects our employees with volunteer opportunities in their local communities.

Governance
We recognize that effective governance is critical to achieving our performance goals while maintaining the trust and confidence of our various stakeholders.

Kinder Morgan's Board of Directors is responsible to our stockholders and regularly evaluates significant business risks and opportunities, and the measures we are taking to mitigate and address them. Meanwhile, our CEO and President work closely with our business segment presidents, corporate function heads and subject matter personnel to evaluate and manage current and potential issues and opportunities, including those related to climate.

Maintaining our pipelines’ integrity through in-line inspections
Doing business the right way, every day is paramount at Kinder Morgan. We invest millions of dollars each year on integrity management and maintenance programs to protect people and the environment. One of the primary integrity assessment methods we use to help prevent incidents are in-line inspections (ILI).
Our Commitment to Reducing Methane Emissions
Kinder Morgan has approximately 70,000 miles of natural gas pipelines that transport about 40 percent of the natural gas consumed in the United States. We are committed to providing natural gas to customers in a safe, reliable and environmentally sound manner. Reducing methane emissions is an important part of our business.
Protecting Threatened Plant Species in Texas
We take great care to minimize impacts on the environment where we work and operate. Our plans and procedures are designed to meet or exceed established standards that protect environmentally sensitive areas, such as water bodies, wetlands and endangered species habitats. This includes our efforts to help preserve and protect the Tobusch Fishhook Cactus by collecting these plants within the Gulf Coast Express Pipeline Project right-of-way and providing plants for biodiversity research.
Protecting Threatened Animal Species
The Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge was created in 1992 to conserve the nesting habitat for two endangered bird species, including the golden-cheeked warbler. With a donation from the Permian Highway Pipeline project (which included the purchase of that privately-held piece of land valued at $8.8 million), approximately 1,360 acres was added to the Refuge to create a total of approximately 17,000 acres of contiguous, unbroken warbler habitat that will be managed by the Refuge system. This addition to the Refuge was a direct result of the Permian Highway Pipeline project and demonstrates that economic development, job creation and other public benefits from the development of critical pipeline infrastructure can also come with substantial environmental improvements.
Respecting Indigenous Peoples and Communities
We engage with the communities where we do business, including Indigenous Peoples and their communities, who are very important to us. For decades, we have sought to build long-term relationships with Indigenous Peoples through meaningful engagement based on mutual respect.
